1)  Register right NOW for the WISH 100 (Link on home page)
2) Another local cycling event, being chaired by one of our own Legacy Cyclists members, Billy Allen, The TC ASU Memorial Fund RIde is being held October 15. It is a 28 mile NO DROP ride from 3200 Sowell Drive, Plano. Come out and support college students in the fight against drug abuse.
3)  Plan on riding this Sunday afternoon at 4:00 from Legacy Church.

The Sunday afternoon ride is ALIVE and WELL.  Much like Mark Twain once said, "The reports of my death have been an exaggeration".  The temperature has dropped, the ride time re-set for 4:00 PM and a friendly little e-mail inviting everyone to re-discover the joy of cycling, encouraged 32 (YES . . . . 32!!!) of our teammates to come out for a spin.  Keith even went strictly by the book (read: e-mail) and brought along a friend.  It was amazing to see the regulars and a few of the "where have you beens?  The Bergers, Amber, Lisa, Maria, Jeff, Jackie version 3.0, Ken L. (all the way from NC), Ray, Shirley!!!!, As promised we had the usual fast and furious group and an easy, breezy ride.  It was great riding, racing and laughing with this great group of two-wheel enthusiasts again.  The hill climbs were aggressive, the downhills taken at breakneck speeds.  And the sprint down Tennyson to Preston on the home stretch was epic.  We had been riding pretty hard and it was actually pretty warm.  We still had maybe 18 in as group as we crossed the Tollway.  As we approached and passed our usual "launching pad" intersection it seemed that the unspoken consensus was to maintain a steady but not exhaustive pace.  Then our friend (read: SOB) Eric decides a breakaway sprint can't be left alone.  Those riders with low self-esteem and weak impulse control (read: me) jumped out to make the chase.  The Rocket, Pat, Keith, Gene, Marcel, Jackie and a host of others all dropped a gear and slammed the pedals to join the chase.  Boy we missed riding together.  Apparently there was some considerable pent up adrenalin in the old Legacy peloton, as Eric who was maintaining a very impressive 30 mph pace, saw a line of riders roar past him like he was riding a Rascal.  It was SO MUCH FUN!

Now that "Satan's Summer" has at least taken a break, I fully expect to see similar numbers on each Sunday afternoon again.  For the record, I personally will not be able to make it this Sunday, as I (along with Sara) will be resting from running the Plano Balloon Festival Half Marathon earlier in the day.  But I'm positive Billy will be there to lead the group (I did forward his ride flyer, so he better be!).

If anyone wants to get in a Saturday morning country ride (55 miles), we can ride out from our place at 7:30.  I'll only be riding an easy 20 or so (note same Sunday morning excuse provided above) then turning over the route to Amy for the serious miles.

Congratulations to Laura for completing what was widely noted as perhaps the toughest of all Ironman races, in her home country of Wales!  Very impressive goal and accomplishment.  Well done young lady!

And to Carl who rode the awesome and challenging Enchanted Circle ride in New Mexico.  High altitude, massive climbs and 100 miles of riding.  Well done old man!

Many of you have asked for a write-up on Gene and my Mt. Rainier climb, so under seperate cover I will provide a report.  If interested, open it up and take a read.  If not, feel free to send it on to the trash bin.

Ride on,

Jim
